Description

Number 28, now a shop, is a house dating from the 17th century with later alterations. It features wet-dashed lath and plaster on a stone plinth, and each floor jetties out with visible beam-ends. The building has a graduated slate roof and a stone chimney at the south end. It stands three storeys tall. The central part-glazed door is flanked by plate-glass windows in an early 20th-century corniced shop front, with a plank door leading to Yard 28 on the right. The upper storeys are symmetrical, with the first floor having two paired sashes with glazing bars, and the second floor featuring three gabled dormers at the eaves with square-leaded casements. Originally, there were south-facing attic windows. In a description from 1900, it was referred to as Pembroke House, which may suggest a connection to Lady Anne Clifford.
