Description
No. 30 Kirkland is a house that has been converted into a shop. It was possibly rebuilt but definitely refaced and raised in height in the early 19th century for John Yeates. The exterior features wet-dash, likely over lath and plaster, with a plinth. A bressummer supports the jettied upper floors, which are carried on four cast-iron Tuscan columns, noted to be the earliest use of such columns in Kendal. The building has a graduated slate roof with stone chimneys at each end. It is three storeys high and has three bays. There is a part-glazed door on the left and 20th-century plate-glass windows on the right, located under the jetty. Each floor above has three sash windows with glazing bars.
