Description
The drinking fountain, now disused, is located on the south side of Abbot Hall Recreation Ground in Kendal. It was designed by John F. Curwen and completed in 1889. The fountain features two sandstone steps and has an octagonal shape. Atop the steps stands a monolithic stone obelisk, approximately 9 feet high, which is set on a corniced plinth block about 3 feet high. The obelisk is adorned with strapwork decoration on all four faces. On the south face, there is an arched recess that includes a waterspout and basin.
