Description
17 and 19 Paradise Square are two houses, now used as offices, built in the late 18th century, with No. 19 dated 1777. They were constructed for Thomas Broadbent and feature brick with ashlar and brick dressings, topped with slate roofs and four gable stacks. The buildings are two storeys high and have a six-window range arranged in a 3:3 pattern. The windows are adorned with brick flat arches.
The left house has dentilled brick eaves and a blocking course, with three 12-pane sash windows and two 9-pane sash windows above. It also features a wooden doorcase with an eared architrave and semi-pediment, along with a panelled door and overlight. To the left, there is a paired 12-pane sash window with a pilastered wooden surround and cornice.
The right house has smaller dentilled eaves and a ramped coped parapet. It has three 12-pane sashes and three 9-pane sashes above. Below, to the left, is a wooden doorcase similar to the left house, with a panelled door and overlight, and to its right are two 12-pane sashes. The right return has three 12-pane sashes on the lower floor and three 9-pane sashes above. The rear of the building features a full-width single-storey addition from the mid-20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
