Marked on OS as Nos 81 and 83 King Street. Pair of houses, now offices. Late C18, altered C20. Sandstone ashlar with ashlar dressings. Slate roof. Double-depth plan with central waggon-passage. 3 storeys; symmetrical 6-bay front, each house of 3 bays. Ground-floor sill bands. In the centre is a large rectangular waggon entrance flanked by former domestic doorways which are now blocked, all with raised plain surrounds and all under a massive rectangular lintel in 3 sections; each has 2 windows at ground floor, with altered glazing, and three 12-pane sashed windows on each floor above, all with raised plain surrounds and those at 2nd floor under a plain eaves band. 3 small skylights in the front slope of the roof, and brick chimney stack at the left gable. Entrances now in sides of through-passage. Rear: flanking the central passageway, very large 3-stage stair window with glazing bars, and in the outer bays a large 12-paned sashed window on each floor, all these windows with broad raised surrounds. INTERIOR: each house with a dogleg staircase with open string, scrolled brackets, columnar newels, 2 slender turned balusters per tread, and ramped handrail, all of pitch pine.
