Description
No. 2 Queen Square is a house that has been converted into a doctors' surgery. It dates from the late 18th century and underwent alterations in the 19th century, with some parts demolished in the 1930s. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with a rendered rear wing on the left and a slate roof. Originally, it was double-fronted, two storeys high, with five bays and a central doorway, featuring a double-depth plan and a rear extension. Currently, only the two right-hand bays of the facade remain, which include sashed windows with plain reveals and projecting sills, as well as cellar openings. Below the gutter, there is a moulded eaves cornice.
On the left side, there is a rebuilt bay that features the original doorway re-erected on the ground floor, complete with three external steps, iron railings, and a cornice supported by console brackets. The upper part of this wall is rendered. Adjacent to the left is a wall that was also constructed in the 1930s, which is splayed back parallel to King Street and connects the rebuilt facade with the rear wing. The building is included for its group value.
