Description
87 King Street is a former house, now used as offices, dating from the late 18th century and altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar and has a slate roof. It features a double-depth plan with a rear wing on the left side. The structure has three storeys and three bays, with a cellar, and the facade is canted back to the left. The left corner has flush quoins and a sill band at the second floor.
On the ground floor, there is a doorway to the left with a plain surround and a plain moulded cornice, which holds a modern glazed door. To the right are two large altered windows beneath a fascia board, with patched masonry below where former cellar openings had ventilators. The first floor contains 15-pane sash windows with projecting sills, while the second floor has 12-pane windows, with the center window fixed and the others being sash. The building has no chimneys. The left gable wall features a 12-pane attic window. At the rear, there is a large three-stage stair window and a single-storey extension.
Inside, there is a dogleg staircase with an open string, simple scrolled brackets, stick balusters, a ramped handrail, and a fluted newel at the foot.
