Description

This is a row of three cottages located at 2, 2A, and 4 Market Street, Barrow in Furness. The cottages date to the late 18th and early 19th century, and have been altered since their original construction. They are built with roughcast and ruled stucco, topped by a graduated slate roof. The arrangement of windows is 1:1:1 across the first floor. Numbers 2 and 2A likely date to the 18th century, and were originally a single house. They feature two 20th-century doors in the centre, a 20th-century casement window on the right-hand side, and a 2-light casement on the left beneath a basket arch, with a plain sash window above. Number 4 appears to be a later addition, with a part-glazed door in a painted surround to the left and a tall 20th-century casement window on each floor; it features projecting sills and thin surrounds. A party-wall ridge stack is located to the right of number 4. The cottages are included in the listing due to their group value within the important Market Place setting.
