Description

Hill Rise is a house located on Market Street in Dalton in Furness, likely built in the late 18th century and altered in the early 20th century. The exterior is roughcast over stone with a graduated slate roof. The house has two storeys and features three windows on the first floor, with a wing at the rear.

The central entrance consists of a six-panel part-glazed door framed by an architrave and topped with a cornice supported by consoles. A wooden porch, dating from around 1930, has a dentilled gable and a finial, and it is flanked by two integral bay windows with four lights each, featuring stained-glass transom lights. These windows are covered by a slated lean-to roof with hipped ends.

On the first floor, the windows have projecting sills and raised surrounds, with 20th-century casements also featuring stained-glass transom lights. The gutter is mounted on a fascia with shaped brackets, and there are rendered stacks at the ends of the building. The interior has not been inspected. Hill Rise is adjacent to No. 19 Market Place and is part of the Market Place group.
