Description
The Red Lion Hotel is a public house with a late 17th century core that was altered in the early 19th century. It features roughcast stone and a graduated slate roof, standing two storeys high with an attic. The front has three windows on the first floor and a wing extending to the rear right. There are steps and railings leading to a boarded door set in a square-headed recess to the right of the centre. On either side of the door are broad casements with glazing bars, and to the left is a small four-pane sash window. Beyond this is a square-headed carriage entrance fitted with 20th-century doors. On the first floor, there are two casements with projecting sills and glazing bars, along with another four-pane sash window on the left. The building has a limestone stack at the end on the right and a truncated ridge stack to the left of centre. Inside, there is an early 18th century stone fireplace in the front right, which has corbels and a cornice. There is also a 17th century wall cupboard on the right, dated 'ETA/ 70', and a beam over the fireplace that has been cut out at the back, indicating a former smokehood.
