Description
A house, originally probably dating from the mid-18th century and altered in the early 19th century, now divided into three dwellings. The external walls are roughcast over limestone, with a composition tile and graduated slate roof. The building is two storeys and an attic, with two windows on the first floor, and a taller wing to the rear. Corner pilasters are present. A doorway has been inserted to the left of the centre, featuring a 20th-century door within a decorative shaped surround. A 20th-century casement window is on the right, with a raised roughcast surround. A round-arched carriage entrance on the left has impost blocks and a keystone. The first floor features two four-pane sash windows with raised surrounds beneath the roughcast, and an eaves band. A brick end stack is on the right. A four-pane sash window is found in the slate-hung gable of the projection from the taller rear wing, which itself has a small brick end stack. The rear of the building has external steps to a first-floor doorway within the gable of the rear wing. A covered way with a cobbled and flagged track runs alongside the rear wing, which contains dwellings 19A and 19B, accessed through the carriage arch. A covered way with a cobbled and flagged track runs alongside the rear wing which contains 19A and 19B. Local records suggest that John Wesley preached at this location. Formerly known as the King’s Arms inn, it became a private house after 1915.
