Description
Empire House is a house located on Market Street in Dalton in Furness, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The building is constructed of roughcast stone and features a graduated slate roof. It is two storeys high with two windows on the first floor, and an added bay on the left side. The house has a cemented plinth and a six-panelled door set in a stone surround beneath a cornice supported by shaped brackets. On each floor, there are 16-pane sash windows on either side of the door, each with projecting sills and moulded architraves. The end stacks made of coursed limestone are of a later date. The left end bay includes a square-headed carriage entrance and has higher eaves but a lower roof pitch. Inside, there are six-panel pine doors and panelled window shutters. The ground floor left features an 18th-century stone fireplace with an architrave, corbels, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice.
