Description
The Gables is a cottage dating from the 17th to 18th century, located on the north side of Brook Street in Moreton Pinkney. It is constructed from coursed squared ironstone and coursed rubble, with some sections banded in limestone. The left bay of the building is rendered on the first floor. The cottage features a tile roof and brick stacks, and it is two storeys high with two bays. The left bay has a gabled roof and projects slightly. The entrance, located in the second bay from the right, includes a 20th-century gabled stone porch and a doorway with a concrete lintel and a part-glazed plank door. There are 2-light casement windows with wood lintels on either side of the entrance, and a 20th-century casement window has replaced a former doorway in the left bay. On the first floor, there are 2-light casement windows with wood lintels. The right bay is a later addition, distinguished by squared quoins and stone coping from the former gable end of the first house. Inside, there is an open fireplace with an original bressumer that has been altered in the 20th century, and a doorway featuring a 4-centred wood arch, likely from the 17th century.
