Description
The Cherries is a pair of cottages, now functioning as a single dwelling, dating from the 17th to 18th century and enlarged in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and whitewashed brick, topped with a thatch roof and featuring brick stacks. The cottage on the left is two storeys high with two bays. It has an entrance to the right of centre, which includes a wooden lintel and a plank door. There are 3-light windows on either side of the entrance, each with wooden lintels and old iron casements, along with similar 2-light windows on the first floor. The cottage on the right was likely originally an outbuilding that was converted into a dwelling in the 19th century, with an upper floor added in brick. This section is also two storeys but has only one bay. Its entrance is located in the left bay and features a wooden lintel and a 20th-century half-glazed door. To the right, there is a 3-light casement window with a wooden lintel, and a similar window is found on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected, but the cottage on the left is said to contain an original winder stair, stop-chamfered beams, and an open fireplace.
