Description
The Grange is a house dating from the 17th century, with a datestone indicating 1686, and it underwent alterations around 1900. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, banded with ironstone, and features squared ironstone quoins and dressings, topped with an artificial stone slate roof and stone stacks. The building has an L-plan layout, is two storeys high with an attic and cellar, and consists of two bays.
On the left bay, there is a 20th-century stone porch with a side entrance that has a 4-centred stone arch and an 8-panel double door. To the right, there is a 3-light stone mullioned window with a square hood. The right bay also contains a one-light stone framed window with a square hood. On the first floor, there is a 3-light stone mullioned window with a square hood in the right bay and a similar 2-light window in the left bay. The gable end is coped, and there is a 20th-century attic dormer.
The right side of the house features three 3-light stone mullioned windows with square hoods across the ground, first, and attic floors. The left wing, which is also from the 17th century and built with similar materials, is two storeys high with an attic and cellar, and consists of one bay. It has a 2-light stone mullioned window with a square hood on the ground floor and a similar 3-light window without a hood on the first floor. There are two 2-light stone mullioned windows in the cellar on the left side, and 3-light stone mullioned windows with square hoods on the ground and first floors, along with a similar 2-light window in the attic. The gable features the datestone IP/1686 and is coped with kneelers.
Inside, the kitchen has a set of chamfered beams, while other rooms feature stop-chamfered spine beams. There is a stone fireplace with a 4-centred arch on both the ground and first floors, and the staircase dates from around 1900.
