Description
Caroline Cottage is a building that was originally a school, now converted into a house. It has a datestone from 1839 and was endowed by Caroline Ward-Hunt. The structure is made of limestone ashlar and features a slate roof. It was originally designed as a two-unit school and is a single storey building. The front has a two-window range of three-light stone mullion windows, each with hood moulds. There is a central flat-roofed porch that includes a panelled and studded door with a four-centred arch head and hood moulds. The building has a moulded cornice and plain parapets, along with a hipped roof that has ashlar stacks at the corners. Above the door, there is a datestone and an armorial plaque. To the right, there is a large window from the later 19th century. At the rear, there is a 20th-century lean-to extension. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
