Description
South Lodge is a lodge house built in the late 18th century and altered in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a slate roof. The original design was a two-unit plan and the building is single storey. The elevation facing Mill Lane has a central gable with a 4-panel door that has a pointed head, accompanied by a mid-20th century porch. There is a bulls-eye window at the apex of the gable and a central ashlar stack. The left elevation is polygonal and includes casement windows with pointed heads and glazing bars on the three central faces, along with a moulded wood cornice. The rear elevation has a similar two-window arrangement. There is a mid-20th century extension on the left side of the entrance. The interior has not been inspected. South Lodge was built as a lodge house for Wadenhoe House and is included for its group value.
