Description
Applegarth is a building that originally served as a schoolroom and house, and is now a house. It features a datestone from 1844. The structure is made of squared coursed lias and has a plain tile roof. It has a 2-unit plan with a two-storey cross wing to the right and a single-storey former schoolroom to the left. The central entrance has a 19th-century ribbed door with a four-centred head. To the left, there is a five-light stone mullion window, and to the right, there is a canted stone bay with a two-light stone mullion window above. All windows have cast iron diamond panes. The building has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, as well as tall brick and stone stacks at the ridge. The datestone is located above the entrance, and the building was formerly a reading room.
