Description

The main entrance gateway to Burre House, along with its attached wing walls, dates from the mid-19th century. It features rock-faced sandstone walling and ashlar piers, with a wooden gate. The wing walls are serpentine in shape and have chamfered copings and end piers. The main drive is flanked by square-sectioned gate piers that have punched panels on monolithic shafts resting on moulded plinths. These piers are topped with cornices and upswept pedestals that support large ball finials. The decorative wooden gate includes three ovals beneath the mid-rail and slatwork above. This gateway contributes to the overall setting of Burre House.
