Northern Part Of The Busy Bee Day Nursery At Newholme Hospital

The northern part of the Busy Bee Day Nursery at Newholme Hospital is a former hospital ancillary building that dates back to around 1841, originally part of the Bakewell Union Workhouse. It is constructed of coursed limestone with sandstone dressings and has a concrete tile roof.

The exterior features a single-storey, twin-roofed rectangular block with punched quoins. The windows have chamfered ashlar surrounds and contain diamond-pane iron casements, some of which have centre-pivot openers. The central boarded door is set in a chamfered surround and is flanked by gables that contain three one-light windows, along with slits and shaped kneelers at the ashlar gable copings. The right return has a gable above two windows, with a front and rear wing that includes two additional windows. The interior has not been inspected, and there is an attached two-storey range to the rear that is not of special interest.
