Description
Newholme Hospital Porters' Lodge is a porters' lodge built around 1841 as part of the Bakewell Union Workhouse. It is constructed of coursed limestone with sandstone dressings and features a concrete tile roof. The exterior is a small, single-storey rectangular block with punched quoins. The windows have chamfered ashlar surrounds and contain diamond-pane iron casements with centre-pivot openers. To the left, there is a 20th-century part-glazed door in a chamfered surround, followed by a single-light window and a shallow gabled projection that has two single-light windows and a gable slit. The front and end gables are adorned with shaped kneelers and copings, and there is a rebuilt ridge stack along with a front gable stack. The right side of the building faces the drive to Newholme Hospital and features a door to the right of a three-light mullioned window with leaded lights and a gable slit. The interior has not been inspected.
