Description

Milepost located on the south side of Baslow Road in the parish of Hassop, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a circular shaft that rises to a cylinder with a moulded top. The shaft is divided into panels by bead mouldings. The milepost is embossed with the following inscriptions: LONDON 152, ASHFORD 3, BAKEWELL 2, BUXTON 13, BASLOW 2, CHESTERFIELD 10, and SHEFFIELD 12. This milepost is part of the Chesterfield to Ashford turnpike established in 1812.
