Description
Poole House is a pair of cottages located on the Devonshire estate, built around 1840, likely designed by Joseph Paxton. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and feature a stone slate roof, which has ashlar ridges and gable stacks that have mostly been rebuilt in brick. The eaves are paired and bracketed.
The south elevation has two bays and is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there are two Venetian windows with raised ashlar tops, and above these are two glazing bar sashes, also with raised ashlar tops and deeply projecting bracketed sills. The west and east elevations include projecting flat-roofed porches that have keyed round-arched entrances and bracketed copings, flanked by keyed round-arched glazing bar sashes. The first floor features two round-arched windows and two flat-arched sashes, all with raised ashlar tops.
