Description
Bradley House and Top House is a farmhouse that has been divided into two residences. It dates from the 17th century and was enlarged and altered in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings and features a stone slate roof that has a coped gable to the west, complete with moulded kneelers. The gable stacks at Bradley House are made of ashlar and have a paired diamond plan.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a T-plan layout. Bradley House, which forms the head of the T, has a symmetrical three-bay east elevation. The central doorway is framed by stone jambs, a lintel, and a bracketed hood. It features a raised and fielded panel door with a rectangular overlight, flanked by three-light casement windows that have returned hoodmoulds. On the first floor, there are two similar windows on either side of a 2-light window.
At the rear, Top House has a three-bay south elevation. In the return angle, there is a blocked doorway with a small window set into it and the gable line of a porch. To the left, there is a 19th-century doorway with a stone lintel and a half-glazed door. Further left is a three-light window with timber mullions. The first floor features three 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, topped with a moulded cornice. There is also a single-storey 20th-century bay to the west, which is not of special interest.
