Description
Smithy House is an early 19th-century house located in Pilsley. It is built of coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings and features a Westmorland slate roof with blue brick gable stacks. The house has an L-plan layout, although the rear wing has been significantly altered and is not of special interest.
The building is two storeys tall, with a symmetrical south elevation consisting of three bays. The central doorway has ashlar jambs and a lintel, with a bracketed stone hood above and a half-glazed door. This doorway is flanked by glazing bar sash windows in plain ashlar surrounds, with three similar windows located above on the second storey.
A curving wall to the south encloses the front garden and features rounded copings. The house is included in the register for its group value only.
