Description

This is a mile post located on Ashford Road in the parish of Hassop, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a circular shaft that rises to a cylinder with a moulded top, divided into panels by bead mouldings. The word "LONDON" is inscribed in embossed lettering, while the remaining information was painted on but is now illegible. This mile post was part of the Chesterfield to Ashford turnpike established in 1812.
