Description
The boundary walls, piers, and gates to Hamfield were built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from large squared and coursed limestone blocks, standing approximately 8 meters high, topped with a plain weathered coping and set on a slight plinth. The wall sweeps to the right end and runs the full width of the house, returning to the left with a quadrant of about 3 meters, before transitioning to coursed rubble at the left end of the facade. At the center, there are a pair of rusticated piers featuring a frieze and cornice, topped with stepped pyramid cappings. Access is provided by two sandstone steps leading to 20th-century wrought-iron gates.
