Description

Hambutts House is a large detached house, largely of the 18th century, with a 19th-century extension, though it may incorporate an earlier structure. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a stone slate roof. The main range is tall, with a one-bay extension to the left that is slightly set back and has a lower ridge. The roof of the main block slopes down at the rear, possibly above the staircase, and there is a single-storey gabled extension. The house has one window in the main block and three windows in the extension. Most windows are 12-pane sashes with stone sills, except for 16-pane sashes flanking the front door and one above it. The ground floor windows have moulded architraves and the first-floor windows have moulded sills. A six-panel fielded door is centrally placed in a Roman Doric portico with a flat entablature. Remnants of chamfered casements remain at first-floor level in bays one and three. The window in the top left corner has a projecting stone balcony slab with a moulded edge and an interlaced cast-iron railing. The house has gable and off-centre left stacks, all with moulded cappings, and contemporary shutters to the windows. The interior has not been inspected.
