Description

Fairview is a house dating from the 16th or 17th century, constructed from cut, coursed, and squared limestone with a stone slate roof. It features a two-gabled street frontage with a single-gabled return to the left and a back range that runs parallel to the street and projects to the left. The building stands two-and-a-half storeys tall and has 2 over 2 over 3-light recessed chamfered mullion casement windows with stopped drips, along with a small single light window at the first floor center, just below the valley between the gables. All windows, except for the center light, have glazing bars. The central entrance consists of a glazed Gothick door set within an ornately decorated porch that has diagonal buttresses. On the street front, there is also a 2-light opening to the basement at the bottom left. The left return features 2 over 2 over 2-light casements similar to those at the front. The interior of the house has been entirely modified. Fairview holds a significant position at the entry to Painswick from the south and is adjacent to Jasmine Cottage, although it is a separate building.
