Description
Old Oak Cottage is a detached house built in the early to mid-18th century, with an extension added in the late 18th to early 19th century. The original part of the house is constructed from limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins, while the later extension features random limestone. Both sections have stone slate roofs and ashlar stacks on the main body. The main part of the house has a rectangular plan with a lean-to extension at the rear, while the later extension is 'L'-shaped and extends forward from the right gable end of the main body.
The main body of the house is two storeys high, with an attic and basement, while the extension is one and a half storeys. The symmetrical facade of the main body has two windows, featuring two and three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements, with hoods over the ground floor windows. There is a two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement in the basement on the lower right, which has leaded panes and early fastenings. A central two-light roof dormer has a chamfered surround, small compass drawn rosettes, and traces of a date '174-' near the top.
The later extension includes two-light wooden casements with timber lintels and two hipped roof dormers, all of which have leaded panes. A broad 20th-century gabled weather-boarded canopy supported by raking struts is also present.
