Description

York Cottage is a detached house dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and retains its original ashlar stacks. The house has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a rectangular plan and later extensions to the rear right and left. The symmetrical facade features three windows, all lit by 16-pane sashes within dressed stone surrounds with keystones. A 12-pane sash window sits above the central late 18th to early 19th century door, which has six flush panels, four of which are now glazed. A Chinese style latticework porch with a curving gable and finial has been added to the front door. Two-light casements with concrete lintels are present in the right gable end. The roadside facade of the later extensions incorporates a sliding sash window and two four-pane sash windows with horns. The interior has not been inspected. A former stable block to the rear left is not of particular architectural interest.
