Description
Orchard Cottage is a detached cottage likely built in two phases between the mid-17th and early 18th centuries, with extensions added in the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is marked on an Ordnance Survey map as “The Cott.” The construction utilizes coursed limestone rubble stone, topped with a slate roof, and features stacks with dressed stone quoins which were restored in the 20th century. The main rectangular body of the cottage has been extended to the west gable and has a lean-to extension at the rear.
The exterior displays a mix of windows: single-light and 2 and 3-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements, some with stopped hoods. A ground-floor window on the right-hand bay features a 3-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood, while the window above is a similar 2-light stone-mullioned casement. Smaller single-light casements with flat-chamfered surrounds are visible at the rear. A 19th-century extension includes a 2-light casement on the ground floor, with one side retaining its leaded panes, and a 2-light wooden casement above. A 20th-century Cotswold-style extension sits to the left. Gable-end stacks are present. The interior was not inspected.
