Description
Sweet Briar Cottage is a detached house dating from the mid-17th century, with extensions added in the late 17th to early 18th centuries. It is built from limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins, featuring rendered stacks and a stone slate roof at the rear, while the south front has an artificial stone slate roof. The cottage has a rectangular plan, with a late 17th to early 18th-century extension at the east gable end and a lean-to extension at the rear.
The garden front is two storeys high and has three windows. The main body features two and three-light stone-mullioned casements, while the last extension has a single two-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casement on the ground floor, along with a two-light steel casement with a gablet above. The central entrance of the main body has a 20th-century glazed door with glazing bars and a concrete lintel topped with a stopped hood. The later extension has a stable-type door, and access to the rear lean-to is now via a plank door. The cottage has gable-end stacks, but the interior has not been inspected.
