Description
The Chapel House is a former Congregational Chapel that has been converted into a house. It was originally erected in 1752 and re-erected in 1804, as noted by the inscription above the porch arch. The facade features coursed squared and dressed limestone, with limestone rubble elsewhere and dressed stone quoins. The building has a slate roof with a 20th-century ashlar stack.
The main structure is rectangular with a two-storey height, complemented by a single-storey extension set back to the right. The symmetrical facade has three windows, which are fixed casements with Gothick glazing and round-headed surrounds that include keystones on the ground floor. The central entrance consists of a double six-panel door topped with a fanlight that also features Gothick glazing bars. A 19th-century flat-roofed porch has a round-headed arched entrance that previously displayed a tympanum inscribed with "Enter into His Courts with praise," although this has now been removed. At the rear, there are paired lancets with Gothick glazing. The single-storey extension has two top-opening casements with glazing bars. The main body has a pyramidal roof with a central 20th-century stack. Inside, there is a gallery on the southeast side of the main body, supported by turned columns.
