Description

Hollow Fosse Cottage is a detached house dating from the mid-to-late 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins, and has a stone slate roof with a 20th-century artificial stone stack built upon the remains of an earlier ashlar stack. The house has an 'L' shape, with a single-bay Cotswold-style extension added in the 20th century to the west gable, and a rear lean-to porch, also 20th century. The main body of the house is two storeys and an attic.

The south front has a gabled section projecting to the right, containing a 4-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window with a king mullion and a stopped hood on the ground floor. Above this are a similar 2-light and a 3-light stone-mullioned casement windows on the first floor and in the attic respectively. Two further 2- and 3-light stone-mullioned casements are present on the projecting gable (though only one is original). Two 2-light slate-hung dormers have been added to the roof. A doorway is positioned to the left-hand side of the projecting gable. The roadside front has a 17th-century 3-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window on the first floor, and two single-light fixed casements – one above the other – likely lighting a staircase, to the right. Access is provided by a panelled door leading to the rear lean-to porch. The interior has not been inspected.
