Description

The Pigeon House is a large detached house dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, with a mid to late 18th-century extension by Howse. It is constructed of limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof, with a stack featuring dressed stone quoins that were restored in the 20th century. The building has an 'L'-shaped early range, which was formerly three cottages, and a later extension at the rear left, with the mid to late 18th-century extension set at a higher level at the right gable end. The early range has two storeys and an attic, while the later range has two storeys.

The south-west front of the early range features 9, 12, and 20-pane sash windows, which appear to be later insertions on the ground floor, along with four 2-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods on the first floor. There is a 12-pane sash window on the far left and three 20th-century rendered 2-light roof dormers with glazing bars. An off-centre right 20th-century hipped porch contains a 19th-century fielded 4-panel door. The gable end of the mid to late 18th-century extension on the right has a 12-pane sash window on the first floor. Additionally, there is a tripartite sash window at first floor level on the north-west side, which features a stylized triangular pediment, frieze, and flanking columns. Both ranges have some hipped gables and include gable-end and axial stacks. The interior is not accessible.
