Description
Upper Farm Cottages is a pair of cottages, now combined into one, dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, with extensions added in the mid to late 18th century. The building is constructed of limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof, with restored stacks that have dressed stone quoins. It has a rectangular plan and includes a single-bay extension from the mid to late 18th century on the right gable end. There are also 20th-century extensions at the rear left, which are not of special interest.
The cottages are two storeys high with an attic and have a single-storey lean-to on the north gable end. The main body of the building has two ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casements on the ground floor, and above them, there are two 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with spring stays. The 18th-century extension on the right features two-light wooden casements with dressed stone lintels on both the ground and first floors.
To the left of the ground floor window, there is a blocked doorway with a dressed stone lintel, and next to it, a 20th-century segmental-headed plank door with fillets. There is also a blocked doorway leading to the lean-to, which has a single-light casement with a double-chamfered stone surround to the left, and a 2-light casement in the attic at the north gable end. Above, there is a niche containing a carved stone head. The interior has not been inspected.
