Description

54 and 56 Andover Road are two terraced houses that have been converted into shops. They were built around the 1840s and have undergone some alterations, particularly in the 1980s for the ground-floor shops. The buildings are constructed of stucco over brick and feature a slate roof with an iron porch.

The exterior consists of two storeys with two bays for each house. One bay is narrower and set back, while the other is wider and has a tripartite window with 6/6 and 6/6 sashes between 2/2 sashes. The ground floor displays horizontal rustication, a crowning cornice, and a blocking course. The entrances on the left are part-glazed and panelled doors with margin-lights and lower flush panels. The shop fronts have been renewed and include shaped mullions and round-arched panes.

On the right side, there are three first-floor windows with 6/6 sashes and blind openings. The central entrance features a three-panel door with raised and fielded upper panels and lower flush panels, along with an overlight that has margin-lights and a tent hood supported by brackets. There is a service range at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a terrace that has been largely rebuilt and shares a similar design with other nearby properties on Andover Road.
