Description
57 and 59 Tamworth Street are two houses that have been converted into shops. They date from the mid-18th century, with a front added in the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with a stucco front and have a tiled roof with a stack at the rear. They have a double-depth plan and rise to two storeys with an attic, featuring a two-window range. There is a platt band above the first floor. The central entrance has a 20th-century door, and there are 20th-century shop fronts. The first-floor windows have sills and stop-chamfered lintels above margin-light sash windows. The buildings also feature two gabled dormers with two-light casements. The left return gable shows a collar truss that is partly exposed. At the rear, there are two gabled wings, including an early 19th-century two-storey range on the right and a single-storey lean-to on the left. Inside, there is a side-purlin roof from the 18th century.
