Description

1 and 3 Greenhill are two houses that have been converted into offices. They date from the mid-18th century, with No. 3 featuring some later alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick and have tile roofs that are hipped at the left end, with brick stacks at the ends. The layout is L-shaped, and the structures rise three storeys with a two-window range.

Both houses have a modillioned brick cornice. No. 1 has a segmental-headed entrance with a 20th-century door, located to the right of a 19th-century shop window that has a cornice and six-pane fixed glazing. The first-floor window is segmental-headed, while the second-floor window features a three-light small-paned casement.

No. 3 has an entrance adorned with pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, leading to a six-fielded-panel door. This entrance is positioned to the right of a large window that has a rubbed brick flat arch and a 20th-century small-paned casement. The first and second floors also have similar windows, with the first-floor window featuring a 20th-century brick lintel. The left end of No. 3 displays a 19th-century sign with a pointing hand and lettering that reads "TO BURTON & DERBY." The left return facing George Lane includes a shop window and three-light casements on each floor to the left. The rear of the building has a gabled wing.

Inside, the properties feature chamfered beams. Overall, these houses make an important contribution to the character of the street.
