Description
The building at 67 and 69 Tamworth Street is a house, originally built in the early 17th century and subsequently remodelled in the mid-to-late 18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of painted brick, with some remaining timber framing, and has a tile roof. The house has a double-depth plan and is arranged over two storeys with an attic. It originally had a two-window front. Two segmental-headed doorways, now with 20th-century doors, are centrally positioned. The ground floor windows are 20th-century replacements, with a timber lintel above the one to the right. The first floor has a segmental-headed window with a 20th-century frame to the left and another 20th-century window to the right. Two flat-roofed dormers are visible. A rear elevation features two 18th-century gabled wings.
The interior of number 67 retains square-section and chamfered beams, along with a timber-framed partition in the rear room. In number 69, a square-section beam and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer are present in the front ground floor room. An early-to-mid 19th-century staircase features re-set splat balusters, and there’s a timber-framed partition. The first floor has a chamfered beam and a 17th-century ribbed door. A 17th-century queen-post truss with trenched purlins is notable, situated within the main truss of a two-bay roof.
