Description
No. 40 Tamworth Street is a house that was once a shop, built around 1760. It features painted brickwork and a tile roof with a brick chimney stack. The building stands three storeys high and has a two-window range. On the left side, there is a small shop window with a recessed entrance and a plate-glass window above a fluted frieze. The entrance on the right has a doorcase with moulded pilaster strips and a frieze, along with a plain frieze and cornice, leading to a six-panel door. To the right of the centre on the ground floor, there is a window with a segmental head and a three-light transomed casement. The first floor has similar windows, while the second floor features windows with three-light casements that include iron opening casements. A canopy supported by enriched brackets extends over the ground floor, featuring a fascia with pendants and a moulded lower edge, along with a cornice adorned with rich cast-iron cresting. The right half of the canopy has a bracketed rail beneath it. There is also a rainwater head with a later downspout.
