Description
38 Tamworth Street is a shop built in 1865. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a double-span slate roof with brick end and cross-axial stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical three-window range. It has a plinth and a very large wood cornice at the top, which is decorated with egg-and-dart moulding. The round-headed entrance includes a dated key and a similarly large cornice supported by brackets shaped like cockerels, with a fanlight above the glazed door. The cornices create a striking appearance on the street. The shop has large 20th-century windows, while the first floor features segmental-headed windows with six-pane sashes. At the rear, there is an elliptical-headed cart entrance with 20th-century infill and casement windows. This building is included for its group value.
