Description
42 and 44 Tamworth Street is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates from the early to mid 18th century, with some parts possibly being older. The building is made of painted brick with some timber framing and has a tiled roof featuring a large brick chimney at the front ridge. It is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys with a two-window range. The exterior includes a plaster plinth and a brick cornice with decorative modillions at the top. Each end of the building has an entrance with a plank door. The ground floor windows are three-light casements, with the left window having small panes. On the first floor, there are two-light and three-light small-paned casements, with the three-light window featuring an iron opening casement. The left side of the building, facing Backcester Lane, shows exposed timber framing above the ground floor and has two 20th-century casements. The lower rear wing includes two later additions, with the right end featuring a triangular-headed entrance and various casement windows.
