Description

A pair of semi-detached villas, now a residential home, dating from approximately 1840 to 1850. They were likely designed by Samuel W Daukes. The villas are constructed of ashlar facing brick, with a hipped slate roof and tall brick end stacks.

The buildings are two storeys with attics, featuring five first-floor windows (one plus four), with the window to the left incorporated within a gabled projection. Ashlar detailing includes quoins to the angles of the projection, a cornice and parapet above the ground-floor canted bay of the projection, a first-floor sill band to the right range, and tooled architraves with keystones for the first-floor windows. Ground-floor windows to the right have tooled architraves and cornices resting on corbels. The windows are largely 1/1 sashes, with round-arched heads on the first-floor; the window within the projection is tripartite with three round-arched sashes. A smaller round-arched sash is set within the gable, with a keystone and impost details, and a sill with carved feet. Three attic dormers have segmentally-arched casements.

The central entrances are accessed by a flight of steps leading to six-panel, part-glazed doors with overlights featuring margin glazing bars. These doors are set within a Doric pilastered porch featuring a continuous frieze and cornice. Wide eaves are supported by corbels, and the gable displays an open pediment; a similar gable is present on the left return.

The interior has not been inspected. The design is similar to numbers 1-17 Lypiatt Terrace, Lypiatt Road, and the buildings form a group with those properties.
