Description
St John's Lodge and Crossways is a villa, now divided into two houses, built around 1820 to 1850, with an extension on the right. The main structure features ashlar stone over brick with a concealed roof, while the right extension has a stucco finish over brick and a hipped slate roof.
The main range is two storeys high and has three first-floor windows, along with a service range at the rear and a single-bay, two-storey extension to the right. Notable ashlar details on the main range include pilasters at the ends and flanking the central window. The ground-floor windows are adorned with Doric pilasters on the sides, a frieze with a cornice, and a central porch featuring similar paired pilasters and an entablature. The building is topped with a crowning entablature supported by heavy brackets and a parapet that has a central scrolled motif.
The first floor has 6/6 sash windows, with the central window set in a tooled architrave. The ground floor features a tripartite 6/6 sash window between two 2/2 sash windows, all set in plain reveals. The extension includes 6/6 sash windows and an entrance with a panelled door on the return side. The rear of the building retains 8/8 sash windows. The interior has not been inspected.
