Description
This is a villa, built around 1830 to 1834. It is located on Tivoli Road, Cheltenham, and was part of a development shown on Merrett's Map of 1834. The exterior is stucco over brick, with concealed roof and end stacks. The main range has four first-floor windows arranged in a 3:1 pattern, with a set-back bay to the right. Stucco detailing includes end pilasters to the right bay, a first-floor band, elliptically-arched recesses over the ground-floor windows, a crowning continuous frieze, and a cornice to the main range. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows, the ground floor has 6/6 windows between 2/2 sashes, and the basement has 8/8 windows between 2/2 sashes, all in plain reveals with sills. A central entrance to the main range has a flight of seven roll-edged steps leading to a porch with Doric pillars and an architrave with wreaths, sheltering a panelled door and overlight. There is an attic dormer. According to Verey, the design may be derived from plans by J.B. Papworth. The stick balusters to the sides of the steps include a wreathed handrail. The interior has not been inspected.
