Description

Number 10 is a villa dating from approximately 1834 to 1840. The exterior is stucco over brick, with an ashlar porch, a hipped slate roof and a stack on the left end. The front has three windows on the first floor. The central first-floor window is set slightly back, creating a wide projecting breakfront, which is accentuated by Doric pilasters. Stucco detailing includes a crowning frieze and a moulded band on the first floor. The ground-floor windows have elliptical recesses above them, while the first-floor windows are framed by tooled architraves. Wide eaves run around the building. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows, the ground floor has tall 6/6 sash windows flanked by 2/2 sashes, and the basement has 3/6 sashes, all in plain reveals. Those on the first floor have sills. A flight of seven steps leads to the central entrance, which is sheltered by a Doric portico with paired columns and a frieze consisting of triglyphs and metopes. The portico has a panelled door with an overlight. The interior of the villa was not inspected. Attached to the front are iron stick railings to the sides of the steps. The property is located on Tivoli Road, which, originally known as Tivoli, was laid out around 1834 as shown on Merrett’s Map.
