Description

Mitre Cottage is an early 19th-century cottage located on the north side of The Square in Witheridge. The exterior is roughcast and whitewashed, with a half-hipped slate roof and a tall brick stack to the right. The building's plan comprises two rooms flanking a central entrance hall, with a rear doorway creating a through-passage. Narrow stairs run at right angles to the rear of the right-hand room.

The cottage is two storeys high and has two bays. The upper floor features three-light casement windows from the early 19th century with square panes and leaded canes. The ground floor has two late 19th-century two-light casement windows with horizontal glazing bars. A central door opening is accessed by a plank door, and a late 19th-century porch with a hipped roof and cusped spandrels featuring trefoil piercing. There is a further door opening to the right with a vertical plank door. The interior has not been inspected.
