Description
Den Croft is a cottage located adjacent to 1 The Square, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings and features a thatched gable end roof. The house has a two-room layout with a central passage and is heated by an axial stack and an internal stack at the right-hand end, both of which have brick shafts. It is possible that the building was originally two one-room cottages.
The cottage stands two storeys high. The front elevation has an irregular arrangement of two windows. On the first floor, there is one two-light and one three-light casement window, the latter being pegged. The ground floor features three windows, comprising two and three lights. The porch is thatched, boarded, and partially glazed. The rear of the cottage includes a lean-to structure.
Inside, the right-hand room has a chamfered axial ceiling beam with scroll stops above the fireplace, which is blocked but retains a bake oven, with the lintel being chamfered and featuring scroll stops. A small cupboard with a fielded panel door, which previously had butterfly hinges, is set into the front wall of this room.
